Understanding the subclass 500 student visa
The subclass 500 Student visa allows international students to study full-time at a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) registered institution in Australia. Applicants must first receive an offer and CoE from an Australian education provider before lodging the visa application.
Since 2024, Australia has placed increased emphasis on the Genuine Student (GS) requirement, which replaced the previous Genuine Temporary Entrant test for this subclass. Your statement of purpose, academic background and financial capacity are assessed together to judge whether study — not migration — is your primary intent.
